Cotswolds Tour   (3 nights/4 days)  2007/8

Day 1: Leaving London we drive to Warwick Castle a fascinating place for children and adults alike. The home of the Earls of Warwick for over 1,000 years, the castle is now owned by Madame Tussauds who have successfully brought it back to life, recreating some of Warwick's past events. There's much to explore, and we'll make sure younger members have an opportunity to explore the dungeons, too. Lunch will be taken in one of the atmospheric pubs in the area and then on to spend the rest of the day in and around William Shakespeare's home town of Stratford-upon-Avon. We'll visit some of the properties connected with the playwright, like his Birthplace, Mary Ardens, Anne Hathaway's Cottage, and the church where he and his family are buried. As we are staying in town tonight, why not visit the theatre? (Tell us when booking your tour). The RSC's productions are usually first class. (Inclusive tour: DB&B).

Day 2: A late start today, as I am sure you would like to wander around this fascinating town of Stratford with its attractive shops and interesting buildings (many in the Tudor style). Next, we visit one of the famous gardens of the Cotswolds area, then meander through the narrow country lanes, stopping off at quaint villages and perhaps even a Manor House or two. How about a little antique shopping before we reach our next stop for tonight? (Inclusive tour: DB&B).

Day 3: This morning we visit Sudeley Castle (April to October) and grounds, the home of Lord and Lady Ashcombe, and once home of Queen Katherine Parr, Henry VIII's sixth wife, who is buried in the castle church. There are many other royal connections, too. From here we visit the delightful villages of the Cotswolds like Stow-on-the-Wold, The Slaughters, Bourton on the Water, Northleach, Tetbury and others, on our way to the Georgian City of Bath where we stay tonight. Before we reach Bath we will take afternoon tea at a manor house. (Inclusive tour: B&B).

Day 4: After a little time to shop, we explore the Roman Baths which have made this town famous. Then, we'll drive around the town to take in some of the beautiful Georgian architecture, before leaving Bath and heading to Longleat House, one of England's finest properties and home to one of her most colourful aristocrats, Alexander Thynne, Marquess of Bath. We'll tour the house, and hopefully view Lord Bath's art collection, including some of his own work.
