The Royal Horseguards Thistle is one of those quintessentially British hotels which simply exude an air of high Victorian character. The quality of decor throughout is absolutely stunning. Part of the hotel's facilities were built in the late 19th century as a gentlemen's political club. The Whig Party had become the Liberal Party by the early 19th century, and were led by famous historic figures like William Gladstone. Everything inside the Club, was designed to impress the visitor with the wealth and splendour of Empire whilst reassuring members that God was in his heaven and the members were most fortunate indeed to belong to such a fine establishment! That no expense was spared in the club's creation, is immediately apparent on entry. The grand design of the main staircase, the magnificent library, gorgeously tiled former billiard room; all echo a more stylish and gracious era. The hotel's comfortable bedrooms have a feeling of character too. Their fresh, vibrant and tasteful colour co-ordinations combine well with all the facilities you'd expect to find in a top international hotel. An excellent full English or Continental breakfast is included, taken in the hotel's charming, relaxed breakfast room, and served part-buffet style.

But the best thing of all about this hotel must be its location! Quietly situated alongside the attractive green gardens of the Westminster Embankment, most rooms have one of the finest views of the river to be found in London. This quiet district of government offices, private clubs and discreet, elegant apartments is delightfully free of street-noise, especially at night-time. Yet just a 10 to 15 minute stroll away are to be found the bright lights of Leicester Square, Piccadilly and the Theatre District, with an incredible variety of night spots, cinemas, theatres, and restaurants. One of the finest art collections in the world can be seen at the National Gallery on Trafalgar Square, just 300 yards away. The National Theatre, The South Bank Arts Centre, Royal Festival Hall concert hall complex, Museum of the Moving Image, and new London Aquarium are all located immediately opposite the hotel on the south bank, now reached even more easily by crossing the new millenium foot bridge right in fron of your hotel. So too, is the new British Airways 'London Eye', the world's highest ferris wheel. In other words, your stay at the Royal Horseguards can be as active or as restful as you wish. The location is perfect!

6) At the end of your stay, your guide will TRANSFER you from the hotel to the airport for your return flight/ongoing journey. So, you like the idea of a short vacation in London, with everything taken care of so you know what to budget for? But, you'd also like to lower the cost somewhat? Our Big Value London Break could be the answer. The Value Break offers all the features of the Royal Experience, except that your hotel will be smaller, and not quite so front-line. The resultant room-rate saving means a lower price for you. We choose a small, comfortable hotel, graded 3 diamond or higher by the English Tourism Council. Your room will have en-suite bath or shower room, satellite t.v., tea and coffee making facilities, and continental breakfast is included too. All rooms may not be air-conditioned, and the hotel's location not 'front-line', but we have a knack for finding the best up and coming, 'trying harder' smaller hotels. They are quietly located and always represent the very best value for money. On arrival you'll be greeted by your own personal driver-guide who will speedily transfer your party to the hotel. We'll leave the luggage here, take a cup of coffee and give you a chance to freshen up, before a pleasant half-day introductory tour of the sights of London. For regular visitors the itinerary is geared to showing those places and experiences which are less well known; on the other hand, if it's major sights that you want to see, that's what we'll do.

Returning to your hotel at the end of the tour you'll be shown to your rooms. Your guide will briefly go through our useful information package and explain how to use your travel passes which give free travel in Central London for three days. The London Lodge Hotel is mostly air-conditioned, the facilities and standard of room furnishings are second to none. Just as important, too, is the attitude of the staff. You'll find a professionalism and a caring attitude which ensures that you will feel really 'at home'.

Another important factor in our selection of hotels is the availability of good local amenities nearby, yet a location which also ensures that all the 'action' of the West End is but a short cab, tube or bus ride away.

CHOOSE YOUR DAY OUT FOR YOUR LONDON BREAK! No matter which tour you choose for your day out, you're guaranteed a great time! We leave the hotel at 9 or 9.30am and return around 6.30pm. You'll travel in your own 8 seater air-conditioned mini-van (MPV), with the services of your own, qualified driver-guide. All entry fees are included, and a good 3 course lunch, (alcoholic drinks excluded). The location will not disappoint - usually an historic inn or country house hotel. Please advise both your choice of tour and the preferred day to tour when making your London Break booking with us. CHOOSE FROM:

1. A visit to WINDSOR CASTLE, passing some interesting historic places on-route. Then we take an excellent pub lunch in a village setting, before touring some of the pretty Thames Valley countryside and visiting the attractive towns of Marlow and Henley.
